We’ve heard tons of buzz about the recent opening of gelato shop Dolce Neve on South 1st, so we couldn’t wait to try it for ourselves.   Owner Francesca has a true love for gelato, having received formal training at Carpigiani Gelato University in Bologna, Italy.  After winning some prestigious awards in the gelato community, Francesca was excited to bring her art to Austin, along with her fiancé and brother.

The team proudly wears t-shirts with the phrase “we do it in front of everyone,” boasting their practice of making gelato from scratch right out in the open in their shop.  There are no shortcuts in this process, and they want to show it off.

The gelato is made mostly from locally-sourced, natural ingredients, with a few exceptions from Italy (hazelnuts, pistachios, almonds, and licorice). The gelato flavors change daily, ranging from traditional vanilla and chocolate to more adventurous, like goat cheese & pecan or mascarpone with figs.  They even offer vegan options – almond with rice milk during our visit.

In addition to their delicious gelato served in cones or cups, you can also try other treats like granita, popsicles, gelato pops, and gelato sandwiched between two cookies.  They can even make custom cakes for your next party.
