When you want chicken wings, you usually have to resort to a dive bar or restaurant, or a chain restaurant dedicated to serving wings. While we appreciate a good dive bar and traditional wings, it's not always appealing to eat surrounded by sports on flatscreens and cheap beer. We rounded up some of Austin's best alternative options for getting wings in a great atmosphere!

The Peached Tortilla

We originally posted about the Crispy Umami Wings at The Peached Tortilla here, and we're still obsessing over them. The Asian fusion spin on these wings will leave your tongue reeling. We also love these wings because they're huge! You won't find yourself gnawing on tiny bones with these bad boys. Though they can be messy (the best wings always are, right?), they come with some very handy wet wipes.

Salt & Time

Salt and Time's fancy take on the traditional chicken wing means a duck wing with fermented hot sauce. The full service butcher shop, salumeria and restaurant features fresh cut meats from sustainable Texas ranches. So you can feel good about not only supporting a local businesses, but also treating yourself to a really creative take on wings!

Chil'Lantro on South Lamar, though not exactly "upscale" features another Asian spin on wings in a bright, modern atmosphere. K-Pops are Korean fried chicken wings, gangnam sauce or honey butter flavor, served with spicy ranch sauce for dipping. And don't stop at K-pops at Chi'lantro - add some of their award-winning tacos and kimchi fries to your plate for an extra belly-pleasing experience. See our review on Chi'lantro here.

Porter Ale House and Gastropub

Asian wings must really be taking the Austin market by storm, because they're also featured on the Porter Ale House and Gastropub menu! Porter serves 'em up with a hot Thai chili sauce, fine herbs, and a fluffy, warm, damp towel (ooh la la)! Check out our other reviews on Porter here and here.

Drink. Well.

Who says wings have to be washed down with cheap beer? Not us! We love to pair creative cocktails with our wings at Drink. Well. Every Wednesday, you can hit up the resto and score 6 wings for $6. Check out the pre-sauced bad boys above- beware of watering mouth!

If upscale wings aren't your thing, you can always hit the classic spots like Tommy Want Wingy, Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken, and Lucy's Fried Chicken,
