Daylight Savings this weekend means we’re in for darker evenings an hour earlier than we’ve gotten used to. That means that happy hour will be dimmer and colder than usual. Instead of hitting up an outdoor patio a la summertime, it’s time to check out some of Austin’s coziest wine bars. Here’s a rundown on some great ones to choose from:

Cru Wine Bar

Cru gets bonus points for having more than one location- you can visit the downtown Cru on 2nd Street if you're centrally-located, or check out the Domain location - both are surrounded by great shopping! Cru features really great flights, which makes for an awesome option when you want to feel out more than one wine or bubbly on the menu. Cru's accompanying food menu is designed to pair well with nearly every wine on the menu. Fun fact: Cru features over 300 wine selections from all over the world and 30 wines by the glass!

One of Cru's flights - we love learning about wine while we drink!

This hidden little gem on Oltorf is super cozy inside. There's great music, plenty of tables, and romantic lighting. This neighborhood wine and tapas bar features Spanish-Mediterranean style food and an internationally-curated wine list. It was recently named one of the "Top 20 Wine Bars in America" by Wine Enthusiast Magazine! On Sundays and Mondays, Winebelly offers half off select bottles. Tuesday through Thursday they feature a killer happy hour from 4-6pm with lots of great plates, as well as $5 house wine (red, white, or rose).

House Wine

House Wine is the king of wine happy hours and events. Looking for a reason to go? Here are a few!

Monday - Saturday, 3-5pm: $4 sangria, $2 off wine cocktails, $2 off appetizer plates
Monday: Choose 1 of 10 bottles for $20
Tuesday: Wine tasting class! 5 wines + Cheese + Information for $25. Reservation required.
Wednesday: All day happy hour! $6 off bottles and $2 off glasses & beers
Thursday, 7-9pm: Free appetizers with live music on the porch
Friday, 4-7pm: $6 off bottles, $2 off glasses & beers, $2 off cheese
Sunday: 1/2 price wine by the glass (on opened bottles)

Did we mention they have s'mores?

Apothecary Cafe

Apothecary's dim, cozy atmosphere makes it a perfect place to hole up with a loved one (or ones!) on a chilly night. The music selection is always on point, along with the wine selection! Apothecary changes up their wine selection seasonally, so there's always something new to try. Sunday & Monday get $1 off glasses and $10 off bottles all night! Tuesday - Friday from 4pm - 7pm get $1 off all glasses / $3 off all bottles. And don’t miss the Saturday Special - 50% off all bottles of bubbles all night!

Vino Vino

A tried and true Austin favorite, Vino Vino has been a staple in our local food and wine scene. The space is remarkably cozy and dim considering how large it is, and their wine list is impressive. The staff is super knowledgable about the selection, so don't hesitate to ask questions! It's also a great place, along with Apothecary, to pair food and wine. Their plates are just as delicious as their wine menu!
