Patio season is upon us, and what better way to enjoy the weather than at Hula Hut, one of Austin’s most iconic restaurants?

Hula Hut located on the banks of Lake Austin

Located on Lake Austin, Hula Hut offers perfect lakeside vibes with a tropical twist. Enjoy cocktails amidst tiki torches, or book your own event under their palapa. With plenty of shade, this outdoor setting is the perfect way to extend summer.

People flock to Hula Hut for the location and views, but let’s not forget the drinks! Hula Hut’s signature drink is the Hu-La-La - light rum, Malibu spiced rum, and Malibu coconut rum all combined with a mix of fruit juices inside a fish bowl! This drink is meant to be shared by two, but more power to you if you can handle it on your own. On our visit we enjoyed traditional mimosas and bloody marys, along with mango margaritas and strawberry coconut mojitos. The Hawaiian-themed menu means you have a plethora of fruity concoctions to choose from!

Plenty of cocktails to enjoy, from traditional to tropical

Hula Hut specializes in Tex-Mex with a Polynesian twist. One of the highlights of our meal was the Chicken Flautas from the appetizer menu. Enjoy six crispy corn tortillas filled with chicken and served with signature jalapeno ranch dressing (arguably the best part!). The tubular tacos (similar to a burrito) are also a popular dish and a hearty portion at that. Choose from shrimp and spinach, steak, chicken or veggie, and prepare to be stuffed. On past visits I’ve also enjoyed the marinated and charbroiled Shiner Bock fajitas. Looking for more Polynesian and less Tex-Mex? They even offer luau dinners and pu pu platters. And don’t worry, for those looking for lighter options, Hula Hut also offers plenty of salads, like the “seasar” or surfer salad with fresh mahi mahi.

Sure it's a little gimmicky, but just because we’re in Austin doesn’t mean you can’t take a trip to the islands. Grab some friends and head over to Hula Hut today!
