Second Bar + Kitchen is one of those restaurants that offers something for everyone.  They specialize in seasonal American cuisine, with a few popular items remaining on the menu year-round.  Part of the Congress and Bar Congress family, Second Bar + Kitchen offers a slightly more casual dining experience in a cool and contemporary setting.

One of the things I love most about the menu at Second Bar is the diversity – both of the flavors and the portion sizes.  They allow you to really customize your dining experience by choosing from shareable, small plates and starters to soups, salads, pizzas, and full-size entrees.  With all these choices, the menu can really work for any budget.

While their wine and beer selection may be tempting, I recommend starting off with one of their specialty cocktails, like the Tiger’s Tail – Batavia, all-spice, honey, citrus, bitters and cinnamon.

Some highlights from our meal:

Chicken fried olives stuffed with pimento cheese

Black truffle pommes frites with truffle aioli (you can even add seared foie gras!)

Buffalo fried pickles with gorgonzola

Duroc pork chop with green chile polenta, pickled onion, pineapple and achiote vinaigrette

Pomodoro pizza with San Marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and basil

Perhaps one of my favorite features of the menu was the small dessert choices.  From $2.50-$3, Second Bar offers a few bites to satisfy a sweet tooth even after a big meal.  The key lime cannolis were the perfect two-bite finish to all the big flavors of our meal.

Second Bar + Kitchen is also open for lunch daily, offering many of the same items as the dinner menu, along with a selection of sandwiches and salads.  I’m looking forward to going back for brunch, with my eyes on the brioche French toast with ginger snaps.  Yum!
