Vino Vino is a cozy but spacious wine bar and restaurant in the Hyde Park neighborhood, serving up delicious cheese plates, small (and not so small) bites, and an impressive wine and cocktail selection.   It’s a perfect spot for happy hour (Monday through Friday, 5:30-7pm), but we were excited to stop by on a Sunday for their weekly paella night.

Dimly lit interior of Vino Vino lined with a wide selection of wines

Though we couldn’t wait to get our hands on the paella, we couldn’t resist their selection of cheese plates.  Our waiter specifically recommended the Chabrin to go with our wine, which included semi-hard raw goat’s milk cheese, a drizzle of honey, and a crispy pecan tuile.

The paella comes out promptly at 7pm, carried in large paelleras by two burly men from the kitchen.  Diners can choose from both meat and seafood options and full or half plates.  This evening the meat included pork rib and shoulder, chicken, and house-made chorizo, while the seafood was chock full of mussels, shrimp, scallops, and redfish.  We recommend going with a half portion of each type so you can get the best of both worlds.

Though we were completely stuffed at this point, we couldn’t resist topping off the night with a cup of espresso ice cream, complete with chocolate espresso beans and another wafer of pecan goodness.

Whether you’re looking for a new happy hour hangout or a way to avoid the Sunday-night blues, Vino Vino is a perfect setting to sip a glass of wine and enjoy some delicious bites.
