Authentic Chinese Cuisine at Asia Cafe

Like many of Austin's best Asian restaurants, Asia Cafe is tucked into a strip center in North Austin. Asia Cafe has been recognized by our LocalSugar writers for some time, but I'm so glad I found myself in this neck of the woods with the opportunity to finally try it myself.

You can't necessarily tell from the outside, but the restaurant is actually quite large - and this is a good thing. Shortly after arriving on a Monday at lunchtime, the line was nearly out the door. The staff is extremely efficient, though. The line moves quickly as orders are called by number. Asia Cafe even offers a loyalty card because it seems that so many of its patrons are regulars, and we could soon tell why.

We chose a fairly traditional order - General Tso's chicken and Pork Fried Rice. We were pleasantly surprised to find that a cup of soup is included free with every dish. The egg drop soup was deliciously creamy and a nice start to the meal. (If you have a hankering for wonton, you'll also find it on the extensive menu.)

It's hard to say which of the dishes was my favorite. I'm a sucker for sweet/savory, so General Tso's was clearly a standout, but the pork fried rice was just the way I like it, with perfectly cooked pork, scrambled egg, peas and carrots. The helpings are extremely generous, and for just $20, the food lasted us for two meals. In addition to the free soup, you can also get free cups of cold or hot tea.

Messy but delicious General Tso's Chicken - the best kind!

Considering how many patrons were using the loyalty card and the line almost out the door, we'd clearly stumbled upon one of Austin's best Chinese food options. In fact a week later, we are still craving our meal! Satisfy your Chinese food cravings at Asia Cafe, a locals' favorite in North Austin.
