Whether you're on the hunt for a delicious cheese plate, Spanish wines, authentic tapas or traditional paella, check out La Bodega Gourmet - a relatively new specialty shop located in an unassuming strip mall in Bee Cave.

I recently heard about La Bodega and couldn't wait to check out this unique concept. The shop offers a nice collection of wines from Spain, Argentina and Portugal, a mouth-watering cheese case, coffees, jellies, infused oils, and Spanish cookware and gifts. Stop by to browse through their unique items, and Chef/Owner Eric Paz will gladly offer you his recommendations.

Chef Paz also offers a paella of the day, which you can enjoy for lunch inside his small shop for just $8.95 including garlic Catalan bread.  You can also swing by and bring some home for dinner for $15 per person or $9 for the very generous half portion. The selections include:

  • Monday: chicken & chorizo
  • Tuesday: Montanesa (pork, sausage and mushrooms)
  • Wednesday: Valenciana (shrimp, pork and chicken)
  • Thursday: Catalana (pork, chicken, chorizo, mushrooms and garlic)
  • Friday: Marinera (shrimp and clams)

Besides the delicious selection of paellas, La Bodega offers a wide variety of tapas and other main dishes for your takeout or catering needs. In order to enjoy the tapas and a paella flavor other than the daily special, you need to place an order at least 24 hours in advance.

On our visit we selected the beef empanadas, Spanish tortilla, Albondigas, and the Marinera paella. We selected the half portion of paella, which was plenty when adding tapas. We simply came back the next day after 4pm to pick it up for dinner. The entire meal cost less than $90 for 4 people, and we had leftovers for a second meal. Plus, we couldn't even agree on the star of the meal because it was all so tasty.

La Bodega also hosts a variety of events that I can't wait to attend. On Friday, April 1 enjoy live music along with Paella Valencia, tapas and wine for just $25 per person. You can also sign up for a paella class every Tuesday, or inquire about private events for small groups.

Bringing home paella and tapas definitely gave our family a fresh spin on takeout, and I can't wait to return to the shop for cheese platters, wine, and hopefully one of their unique events.
