Koriente really hits the mark by fulfilling a niche of quick and healthy Asian cuisine in the downtown area. The friendly staff, gingham table covers and entertaining wall art adds to the appeal.

Elizabeth Street Cafe is one of those restaurants where every single detail is perfect- the decor, the dishes, the napkins, the staff uniforms. So it should come as no surprise that their plates are served beautifully, as well.

Authentic Vietnamese at Tan My

After a cold afternoon of shopping at the Domain, we were in the mood for something warm, comforting and casual. Instead of sticking around, we drove to a nearby strip mall for some of the most delicious and authentic Vietnamese food in Austin at Tan My

There are tons of options from which to choose, but we knew we wanted to try both Pho and Vermicelli. The soups are divided according to type of broth (chicken, beef, etc.). We selected from the chicken broth menu and opted for thinly sliced pork. The pork fell apart in your mouth and the broth was loaded with flavor, a perfect winter meal.

I have to admit, though, that the Vermicelli was the real star for us. We selected the barbecue chicken served on a bed of vermicelli noodles, sprouts, lettuce, peanuts and green onions - this dish was exploding with flavor.

The portion sizes are extremely generous, but we couldn't resist a side of spring rolls made with shrimp, chicken and pork - the perfect accompaniment to an extremely satisfying meal.

Don't expect much from the establishment itself. It's a small but comfortable restaurant with good service, and more importantly, delicious food. North Austin is a mecca for quality Asian food, thanks in part to Tan My. With so many options on the menu, I'm looking forward to returning to try new combinations. Don't miss this rare off-the-beaten-path gem for authentic Vietnamese cooking.
