Sweetish Hill Bakery & Cafe in Clarksville is an Austin institution that has been serving European-style baked goods, as well as sandwiches and salads, for over 30 years now. Visiting Sweetish Hill transports you back to a time when Austin was quieter, calmer, and sleepier. There's indoor seating, but the best tables can be found under a canopy outside, surrounded by small local businesses and flowering plants. You can also feel good about supporting other local businesses when you dine here, as they source locally, including East Poultry natural chicken, Texas Coffee Traders coffee, Amador Farm's lettuce, Hill Country peaches and Texas farm fresh eggs. Owner Jim Murphy said, "We believe ingredients that don't travel great distances and aren't preserved for long periods of time retain more of their flavor and nutrition."

The best time to visit Sweetish Hill is early in the morning- that's when you'll find the best selection. All of their baked goods are made fresh daily, and you can smell the goodness as soon as you walk in! While we strongly recommend loading up on the baked goods, Sweetish Hill also serves a Bakery Breakfast, which comes with eggs, bacon or sausage, and house potatoes. The bakery has a diverse menu of coffee drinks, so don't forget a coffee or latte to go with your breakfast noshing. Sweetish Hill might be the only restaurant in central Austin that makes bialys, so we definitely suggest you try one! It's a bagel/English muffin combo, and it's delicious.

If you can't make it to Sweetish Hill for breakfast (or if you don't love the selection by the time you get there), lunch is your next best option. The bakery has a large menu of made-when-you-order sandwiches. Some of our favorite sandwiches include Mom's Chicken Salad, Tuna Salad, and the Turkey Club. If you're in a rush, just pick up a grab-and-go sandwich- your options include Ham and Brie, Eggplant and Brie, or a variety of hoagies. They also stock plenty of salads that are ready for pickup.

Whether you're looking for a quaint cafe snack, some sandwiches to take to the lake, or a catering order of pastries or sandwiches for a group, Sweetish Hill has all of the bases covered!
