Now that the temperatures are starting to drop in Austin, there’s no better place to enjoy a nice meal than out on a patio! Barlata’s new curbside patio is just the place to be for brunch on a Saturday or Sunday. Located in the ever-changing South Lamar area, Barlata has been a go-to for Spanish tapas lovers for almost two years now.

Barlata’s brunch offering is much more paired down from their regular dinner menu. Although their options might seem a little more limited, they’re all packing a big, delicious punch. The menu is split in three sections: Spanish brunch, tapas, and paellas. The Spanish brunch section features your typical brunch items, with a bit of a Spanish twist. For example, the Poached Eggs dish is their take on eggs benedict and comes with jamon iberico as opposed to Canadian-bacon.

On our recent trip, we decided to order one item from each section. We started with the Gambas Ajillo then moved on to the Poached Eggs and ended with the Paella Barceloneta. All of the dishes were loaded with flavor, especially the Gambas Ajillo, which were covered in garlic and olive oil – such a great combination. The Poached Eggs were easily our favorite dish and the pimenton hollaindaise sauce was out of this world. The paella, while a little on the small side, was quite delicious.

The food and drinks were fantastic and our experience was made even better by being able to sit out on the sidewalk patio, which is reminiscent of sidewalk cafes found all over Spain. The half-wall surrounding the patio blocks the noise and distraction from bustling South Lamar to ensure you’re able to enjoy your meal with friends and family. Be sure to stop by Barlata for a weekend brunch sometime soon!
