Comida Deliciosa at Habanero Mexican Cafe

Passing by Habanero Mexican Cafe, it may not be obvious that it's an Austin gem. But this hole in the wall has been serving up some of Austin's best Mexican and Tex-Mex food for over 10 years! Opened by the Ibarra family over a decade ago, this restaurant has even retained most of its original staff.

The menu is large and varied, so you'll have your pick between appetizers, gorditas (like a Mexican hamburger), tortas (sandwiches), breakfast plates (served all day!), enchiladas, tacos, large plates, and Tex-Mex specialties. There's also a dessert and kids menu.

Some favorites include the Chicken Flauta Plate, Gordita Plate, and Migas plate, all pictured below. If you're looking to take home leftovers, order the fajitas; the serving is super generous. For something hearty, order the Zach Attack (also pictured below): a large flour tortilla filled with beans, choice of meat, topped with spicy queso, served with a side of rice. Another fan favorite is the Chili Relleno- a big poblano pepper stuffed with choice of ground beef, chicken, or cheese, and fried in fluffy egg batter. However, some of the best deals can be found in the breakfast and lunch tacos- super affordable and really filling.

Habanero Cafe has less than 15 tables, and though turnover is quick, there can be wait times. Also be aware of their odd hours- they're open Sunday-Monday 7am-3pm, Tuesday-Thursday 7am-5pm, and Friday-Saturday from 7am-9pm.
