We’ve all been fans of the original Lucky's Puccias food truck, and are thrilled to see a brick and mortar location open up with an expanded menu and hours. Partially funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign, the new brick and mortar location has added authentic Italian pizza and salads to their menu.

These days, the Austin pizza scene is ever growing and now includes Las Vegas import Due Forni.

Cozy Comfort Food at Tony C's

As a native New Yorker, it’s tough to find pizza (or Italian food in general) that seems to compare. Tony C’s Coal Fired Pizza may not be the trendiest of all the pizza joints that keep popping up around Austin, but it consistently serves some of my favorite Italian food around town.

Perfect for a cold night, Tony C’s offers indoor seating upstairs and downstairs, along with a bar and spacious patio (with heaters!). They are located right next to the movie theater at the Hill Country Galleria, so it’s a great spot to grab dinner before a movie or a glass of wine when you come out.

For starters, you can’t go wrong with the garlic knots. If you order one of the salads, it even comes with one on the side.

Every time I go, I have a tough time deciding between one of their coal-fired pizzas or traditional pasta dishes.  When you’re looking for something classic and comforting, the baked ziti is one of my favorites, served in a small cast iron skillet. You also can’t go wrong with the lasagna or penne alla vodka.

As for pizzas, like most they offer a selection of flavor combos, or you can build your own. One of my favorites is the meatball – tastes just like a New York pizzeria I love! If you go on a Tuesday, you can even get two pizzas for the price of one. The February pizza of the month was the Rosa, their award-winning dough topped with pink sauce, pepperoncini, chicken, fresh arugula and mozzarella.

Don't forget to also check out the restaurant for happy hour Monday through Friday, 3-7pm, which includes $3 off appetizers, $1 off bottled beer, and $2 off large drafts, bellinis & wine by the glass. You can also pop in on Sundays for Sangria Sundays with half price pitchers.
