With its central location and ever growing collection of trendy restaurants, Airport Boulevard is poised to be the next big entertainment district in Austin. This week we stopped into the strip’s House Pizzeria, a casual pizza place with a neighborhood feel. Pizza is definitely one of Austin’s hot new trends, which should be pleasing to many of the city’s north eastern transplants. House Pizzeria offers creative takes on neapolitan style pizza at a great price.

The veggie loaded Subterranean pizza.

While you can certainly find more traditional fare on the menu like Margherita, Pepperoni, or Sausage & Mushrooms, the highlight of the menu is the more adventurous options. Take the Potato and Goat Cheese, which features rosemary potatoes, fresh mozzarella, and goat cheese. Or try the Eggplant Pizza, topped with an eggplant tapenade, capers, kalamata olives, and parmesan. We happily dined on the Subterranean, made with caramelized onions, fontina, mushrooms, rosemary roasted potatoes, and basil. The result is a delightful pie with complex flavors.

The Pesto Ricotta is a deliciously simple and shareable app.

In addition to the regular menu, the restaurant offers a chalkboard menu of daily specials for antipasto, appetizers, and desserts. On our trip, we took advantage of this for shareable starter plates. We ordered the Pesto Ricotta, which is a simple and delicious bowl served with fresh baked slices of bread. The Crispy Polenta, while also tasty was slightly more difficult to share. It features a fried polenta dumpling served on top of a bowl of tomato sauce mixed with squash and other vegetables.

A pot of Crispy Polenta also makes for a tasty starter.

The dining room is pretty intimate with only a few booths and mostly bistro sized tables.

Outside there’s a small covered patio with additional seating at larger tables. It’s the perfect spot for a casual but still trendy place to catch up with a friend or two. With a great selection of beer and wine, you’ll also want to stick around long after your meal is done.
