Cure Your Hunger at Apothecary Cafe

Apothecary Cafe & Wine Bar is one of my favorite places in Austin to chill out with a glass of wine or bubbles and some food. There's something so cozy about the interior that makes it such a charming place for a date with your partner or friend. There's also a small patio out front if you're looking to get some sun or moonlight while you dine.

Our last review of Apothecary showcased their insanely beautiful and delicious brunch, as seen here. As expected, their dinner was just as gorgeous. Besides being aesthetically pleasing, the food is incredibly tasty at Apothecary. Their menu embraces so many different flavors and cultures. You'll find food with American, Asian, and Mediterranean influences, as well as a killer selection of cheese and charcuterie. Apothecary is a great place to share plates, though you'll want to order them all!

Apothecary has a great wine list as well as a selection of beer. Their wines rotate constantly and they're always bringing in new, exciting bottles for customers to try. The waitstaff at Apothecary is well versed in wines, so don't be shy if you need a recommendation. They also run some awesome wine specials depending on the day of the week, which you can find at the end of this post.

Apothecary Cafe's dinner menu

Apothecary's raw bar features a great selection of oysters (which you can get at happy hour pricing occasionally, but more on that below). The raw bar also has a seasonal selection of stone crab claws, shrimp and lobster cocktail. Apothecary's ceviche changes frequently, and we couldn't resist it once we saw the description- striped bass with flame peppers, red onion, paprika, and sumac. The special touch of the crunchy bass skin really hit a homerun for us. If fish skin isn't your thing (don't knock it before you try it!), ceviche comes with a heaping basket of chips as well.

Usually small portions and beautiful plating go hand in hand, and we found this to be true at Apothecary. However, there's also something to be said for how appropriate the portions are. You won't find yourself hungry after dinner here. This gorgeous plate of Steak Frites was decadent and filling despite appearing small. The Veggie Bi Bim Bap was a more generous serving, and absolutely delicious, especially with a fried egg topping. The pickled veggies provided such a perfectly acidic touch to this Asian dish.

Had we been hungry enough to order dessert, it would've been a tough call! The Chocolate Ganache and Banana Split sounded especially tasty. You can also channel your inner European and end your meal with a cheese course. The cheese plates at Apothecary are generous and stunning, but we highly recommend scoring your cheese plate during the happy hour pricing! Apothecary runs very affordable specials during the week and weekend, so we've listed out your best bets below:
