While there are tons of ritzy oyster joints in town (Perla's, Clark's, Parkside, to name a few), our favorite secret spot for oysters can be found off the beaten path in Round Rock. Deckhand Oyster Bar, a family-owned restaurant, serves super affordable oysters harvested from Rockport, TX. Their menu also includes tons of fried and grilled fish and shellfish, many dishes influenced by Southeast Asian cuisine.

When ordering oysters, don't forget to ask for their special housemade green Thai sauce. The recipe's a secret, but it's got serious kick and tastes great on many of their dishes! The no-frills establishment has expert shuckers doling out dozens of oysters completely free of dirt and sand, but still retaining delicious brininess. Stuffed and broiled oysters are also available.

We ordered a dozen oysters and they gave us 14- so generous!

Deckhand isn't only famous for oysters- their Tom Yum Soup is also a big part of what makes Deckhand special. Touted as a "natural hangover remedy" the Tom Yum Soup is a Thai herbed spice mixed seafood broth with shrimp, mussels, tomatoes, onions, and fish.

If shellfish isn't your preference, we recommend the Deckhand Combo Platter of fried catfish with shirmp, slaw, hushpuppies, and french fries. Feel free to order this with a friend- it's a ton of food!

While it may be a bit of a hike from Central Austin, Deckhand is well worth the drive!
