Diving in to Alcomar's new Lunch Menu

When I heard that my very favorite coastal Mexican restaurant had launched a new lunch menu, I couldn't wait to go! Alcomar on South 1st has been serving lunch for quite awhile, but the menu featured most of their dinner dishes along with a few breakfast items. A few months ago they beefed (or should we say "fished"?) up their lunch menu with a slew of new options. Like the rest of their menu, the lunch showcases Latin American flavors and creatures from the sea.

While perusing the menu in the bright and impeccably decorated restaurant, I realized I wouldn't be able to pass up a few items from their regular menu, as well. The Wood Grilled Calamari, made with  spinach, olives, caper mignonette, and grilled lemon aioli, baguette ($13) is such a healthy starter, very difficult to make at home, and super easy to share. The Tortilla Crusted Crabcake, made with sweet potatoes, beets, crispy capers, tomatoes, and grilled lemon aioli ($15), was also irresistible.

The real star of this lunch came from something off of the new lunch menu. The Grilled Tuna Tostadas, made with  guacamole, arugula, spicy pickled onions, arbol oil, and served with saffron rice ($15) really knocked it out of the park. The fish tasted super fresh, was cooked to perfection, and had a nice bite of acidity from the spicy pickled onions. It's a light option that's filling without putting you to sleep.

Other great options from the new menu include an Avocado Toast (so trendy right now!), a Soft Shell Crab Torta, Grilled Lobster Taquitos, and the Alcomar Salad which you can top with chicken, steak, or shrimp. If the new lunch specials aren't doing it for you, you still have tons of options from the appetizer and regular menu! That includes the super tasty Octopus Tostadas below!

One of the reasons we love Alcomar is because they create dishes that are really difficult to make at home. It's nice to feel like you're treating yourself to something special, and that's how we feel every time we dine at Alcomar. The free parking lot doesn't hurt either.
