Don't Skip the Churros at Chi'lantro

The new brick and mortar location of Chi’lantro is now open on South Lamar, and crowds are already flocking. We went pretty early on a Friday night, and between 6:30 and 7pm the line was already out the door.

The space is relatively small, but very open and bright. It was still very easy to grab a table after ordering at the counter.

The menu is similar to that of the food truck, but of course being in an actual kitchen allows them a bit more flexibility. Still, on our visit we were in the mood to dine on some of their classics. We enjoyed the tacos, one soy glazed chicken and one pork bulgogi, served with lettuce, onions, cilantro, salsa and corn tortillas.

No visit to Chi’lantro is complete without their out-of-this-world kimchi fries – delicious fries topped with caramelized kimchi, cheddar, Monterey jack, onions, cilantro, magic sauce, sesame seeds, sriracha and the protein of your choice.

Although we were not particularly starving on this visit, we couldn’t resist leaving without sampling their churros, and I highly recommend you do the same. For just $3.50, you get a serving of 5 small churro tots resembling donut holes, stuffed with warm, delicious dulce de leche. This was truly the best dessert we’ve had in a while. In fact, when we left I asked my husband how he’d rate those churros on a scale of 1 to 10, and he said about a 30. Obviously they really wowed us. There's a terrible rumor that these churros will only be on the menu for a limited time, so I recommend you hurry over.

Here’s a quick tip – if you want to order more food after you’ve already paid and taken your seat, the extremely helpful and friendly wait staff will place your order for you without having to wait in line again.

No more chasing down the food trucks, people. We recommend you run, don’t walk, to check out the new Chi’lantro.
