If you stay up to date on the Austin food scene, you've likely heard tons of buzz about Eberly, the new beauty on South Lamar. Between its beautifully decorated dining room, a glass enclosed room perfect for groups, a rooftop terrace, and even a Cedar Tavern with a bar imported from Greenwich Village, the restaurant is truly worth exploring.

Though the space itself can be overwhelming, the menu is pleasantly manageable with a handful of choices for oysters, starters, salads, sides and mains. Our waitress helpfully encouraged us to order a few smaller items and share a main dish, which was a great way to maximize our sampling.

We started off our meal with the Crab & Cornbread made with lump crab meat, caramelized onions, jalapeno cornbread, buttermilk, celery and radish. This was probably the most unique of the dishes we had all night, and a rich start to the meal.

For our main dish, we selected the braised short ribs, ever difficult to photograph but delicious to eat! These were made with oxtail and caramelized onion, apple fondue, broccolini and braised vegetables. The meat quite literally fell off our forks.

Instead of a second entree, we selected a couple items from the Farm and Dairy menu. Once I saw Shells & Cheese, I couldn't resist the combination of orecchietti, cream, taleggio, white cheddar, parmesan and gruyere. The dish was about as decadent and creamy as it sounds. We balanced off this sinful amount of cheese with an order of Brussels & Cauliflower, made with smoked chilis, anchovy, garlic, and butternut maple balsamic vinegar, the latter being the clear standout ingredient.

With a total of four dishes, we got a great feel for the menu but sadly did not leave much room for dessert. However, Eberly offers a beautiful selection of housemade decadent endings, including their take on a Raspberry PB&J and Sweet Potato Donuts. In addition to their approachable wine and beer menu, I also managed to sample one of their cocktails - The Angelina Express. At $13 it was a bit steep, but we loved the strong combination of Stoli Vanilla, kahlua, espresso, Cointreau, and Ghirardelli chocolate syrup.

With its many areas for dining, drinking, and exploring, Eberly is South Lamar's newest hot spot. Whether you're looking for a quiet, romantic evening or a space fit for a group, Eberly fits the bill.
