Fonda San Miguel has been serving some of the finest Mexican food in Austin since 1975.  Tucked a little off the beaten path on North Loop Blvd., you can’t miss the colorfully lit trees sparkling year round.  You’ll be surprised at how cozy the restaurant feels given its rather large size, which also makes it a good spot for large group celebrations. It’s slightly more upscale than your average Tex-Mex joint, but it still embodies the laid-back, casual feel of most Austin restaurants.

Perhaps the best part about Fonda San Miguel is the consistency.  From classic to inventive, we have yet to order a dish here that does not blow us away.   If you’re a fan of interior Mexican food and want to give it a try at home, Fonda San Miguel even has their own cookbook available for sale.

Fresh Guacamole

House made tamales filled with rajas and cheese

Duck enchiladas with a poblano-spinach sauce

Enchiladas suizas, served with chicken, pork, cheese or vegetables

Pollo Pibil, achiote-seasoned chicken baked in banana leaf

Don’t wait for an occasion to check this one out.  Grab your besties and enjoy happy hour in their warm and inviting bar area.  They offer $1 off margaritas and half off apps Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and a special all-night happy hour on Tuesdays with $4.95 margaritas.  Sunday brunch, served from 11-2, is another great opportunity to try out a variety of dishes and check this one off your Austin dining bucket list.
