Austin is home to many delicious barbecue restaurants, and the La Barbecue food truck is one that can't be missed. The meat is tasty, and the food truck park atmosphere is friendly and fun.

If you’re looking for upscale BBQ to enjoy indoors or out, Lamberts is the place to go this fall.

Popular West Campus food truck, Slab BBQ, just opened a grown up brick and mortar spot in North Austin. Don’t fret if you’re a fan of the mobile version, it’s staying open. Placing the focus on sandwiches gives Slab BBQ a great niche spot in Austin’s expanding BBQ scene.

Franklin Barbecue Worth The Wait

Considered the crown jewel of the BBQ scene, Franklin Barbecue is no stranger to success. Tucked away on the East Side, everyone from Jimmy Kimmel to Anthony Bourdain has praised the trailer-turned-brick-and-mortar BBQ joint. Fame comes with a price; to enjoy their mouthwatering offerings, you can expect at least a three hour wait in line. People begin queuing long before the doors open at 11:00 am. On average, Franklin's prepares 1,800 pounds of meat a day (!) They're open for lunch until it's gone (early to mid afternoon).
When preparing for your trip to Franklin's, make sure you come prepared. I would recommend brining folding chairs and a cooler with your favorite beverages. Going with friends to chat will make the wait go by more quickly. You can also buy drinks from the friendly Franklin servers. I recently visited on a Thursday. We arrived at 9:30am and were served at 1:00pm. The big question always is, “is it worth it?” And the answer is: a big YES.

On the menu, you’ll find brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and sausage.  You can order by the pound or by plate; either a two-meat plate or a single-meat plate. Plates come with your choice of two of the following sides: potato salad, slaw, and pinto beans. I ordered the two-meat plate with brisket and ribs as my meat, and potato salad and slaw as my sides. There aren’t enough words to describe just how good the brisket is. "Tender", "flavorful", and "melt-in-your-mouth" are just a few. And, you can't go wrong with the classic sides, especially the pinto beans.

After eating piles of delicious barbecue, be sure to save room for dessert. Franklin's serves local bakery, Cake and Spoon's, mini pies for $4 each.  We opted for the Banana Pudding Pie, a heavenly creamy dessert that was a great ending to our meal.

Believe all of the hype and plan a trip to Franklin BBQ for their mouthwatering barbecue. It’s a great place to bring out of town friends or family too!
