It was a bit of a travesty when popular trailer Flip Happy Crepes closed, so we were thrilled to hear that Dripping Springs' Crepe Crazy opened an Austin location. The new location on South Lamar is a great spot for any meal as they have crepes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even dessert. The variety of both sweet and savory crepes will keep you coming back to try more.

The atmosphere is super casual. You order at the counter by pointing to the items you'd like. It's a handy way to place your order because the entire staff - including the owner - is deaf. So by pointing to your items and answering a few quick questions, you can easily and efficiently communicate you order. The staff then swings around the ordering screen for you to approve, then you grab a table and wait for your freshly made crepes to arrive in front of you. Super easy!

Here's what we picked on our first visit to the new space:

Crepe Crazy Menu (oh, the options!)

Caprese Crepe (folded back to see the inside)

Proscuitto and Apricot Jam Crepe

S'mores Crepe

The Caprese Crepe is a great vegetarian option. It comes with sliced buffalo mozzarella cheese, basil pesto, tomatoes and balsamic reduction glaze. The salad on the side gives it such a fresh bite, as well. This would even be a great crepe to share as an appetizer. We also loved the Proscuitto and Apricot Jam Crepe- it comes with prosciutto, arugula, brie, apricot jam and extra virgin olive oil and accompanied by the side salad.

The Good Morning (breakfast) Crepes aren't served all day, so make sure you're there before 11am on weekdays to get your morning fix. We were tempted by the very Austin-y Fiesta Crepe (scrambled eggs, monterey jack cheese, chorizo, black beans, cilantro and housemade salsa), and the Norwegian (smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, whipped cream cheese, pickled red onions, capers, fresh-squeezed lemon and fresh dill). Alas, we had arrived when they'd already moved on to lunch/dinner crepes.

Choosing your sweet crepes is where you really run into trouble. The trouble is that they all sound amazing, especially if you have a sweet tooth! The S'mores Crepe was basically perfect- an intoxicating mix of nutella hazelnut chocolate spread, torched marshmallows and crumbled graham crackers. Next time we plan to try the Caramelized Apple and Vanilla Cream (which comes with caramelized apple, white chocolate sauce, roasted walnuts, cinnamon and caramel sauce), and the Peanut Butter Heaven (peanut butter, bananas, drizzled honey and roasted almonds).

The convenience of Crepe Crazy's parking lot, order-at-the-counter system, the quality of the crepes, and the sheer deliciousness will definitely have us back in soon to try more!
