Austin's own finger-licking good chicken-themed restaurant, Fresa's, has opened a spacious, family-friendly location on South 1st. Their original location on South Lamar is still open, but remains to be only a drive-through and walk up restaurant. The South 1st location also has a convenient pick-up window for to-go orders, but focuses mainly on a sit down experience. They have a large patio that includes tons of kids toys, great shade, and some outdoor seating as well as indoor dining available at the bar and an expansive area with tables. The expanded menu will thrill Fresa's fanatics!

The expanded menu includes more sides, salads, entrees, and even three different types of guacamole. We opted for the Classic Guac, but you can also choose between a Green Apple Guacamole with pineapple, jicama, and mint, or a Chipotle Bacon Guacamole with chorizo, adobo, and queso fresco. Fresa's added a seasonal tostada to the menu and the summer tostada is a Shrimp Coctel Tostada- topped with chilled shrimp, dragon salsa, avocado, red onion, cilantro, and chipotle mayo. This tostada is big enough to share and was quite a hit at the table. Also new to the menu is the wide variety of quesadillas. We opted to try the Flor de Calabasa Quesailla, which is squash blossom, goat cheese, zucchini, oaxaca cheese on a corn tortilla. It's decadent and delicious! More classic quesadillas include beef, chicken tinga, and mushroom.

Also new to the menu are two entree options- a Striped Guajillo Fish (that comes at a hefty price tag - $64 for the whole fish and $34 for half) and Chimichurri Steak. Both entree options come with rice, beans, tortillas, grilled onion, jalapeno, lime, and salsas. We loved the fish but probably wouldn't reorder just based on the price. A variety of tacos are still on the menu and remain to be extremely popular. Breakfast tacos are available in the morning, as well as other tacos for lunch and dinner. We especially loved some of the sides we ordered here. Many Mexican and TexMex restaurants offer few other side options besides rice and beans, so it's lovely to see a variety of veggies on the menu. The Grilled Sweet Potatoes, Crispy Brussels, Sprouts, Grilled Beets, and Grilled Kale really hit the spot. Cheesy Cauliflower is also available as a side, but is much more decadent than the other options. Other healthy menu items include a variety of salads and bowls.

With a large menu, separate children's menu, desserts, and a full bar, Fresa's new spot truly has something for everybody. It's perfect for any meal, or just for drinks! With the weather cooling down soon, the patio is sure to be packed throughout the fall.
