Happy Hour Brings Holiday Cheer

It’s the perfect time of year to leave work early and grab a cheap glass of wine or seasonal cocktail at some of our favorite happy hour hangouts.

House Wine, located just south of downtown, promotes happy hour every hour with $5 glasses or $18 bottles of happy hour wine. If you can get out extra early, you can also snag $4 sangrias, $2 off wine cocktails (like Pumpkin Spice Sparkling Cider or Wild Hibiscus Royale), and $2 off appetizers from 3-5pm.  They offer additional specials every night of the week, like free appetizers with live music on Thursdays.

Mulberry, located on 3rd and Nueces, has happy hour weekdays from 5-7pm, with white, red and sparkling wines starting at $6 a glass.  You can also munch on cheap snacks while you drink, including Devils on Horseback or even heavier items like a grilled gouda sandwich with apple chutney on brioche.

You don't have to head downtown just to find a good happy hour spot.  Try out Olive & June, located just off 34th Street.  Grab a table on the patio and enjoy half off all beer, liquor and specialty cocktails, along with half off antipasti every night until 6:30pm.

Another great spot north of downtown is Drink.Well., serving up happy hour prices from 4-6pm Tuesday through Friday.  In addition to discounted wine and local beers, they have a menu of specialty seasonal cocktails for $6.

One of our favorites on the East Side is Buenos Aires Cafe.  Take advantage of $3 off wines, $1 off beers, or $5 house-made sangria (or spring for the full carafe for just $18!). Their tapas and empanadas also make the perfect accompaniment to the drink specials.  We especially love thecarne suave empanada, but at just $2.79 each, give them all a try.  Plus, don't miss out on live music and tango on Thursday nights.

Whether you’re in need of a drink with your coworkers at the end of a hard day or looking for a way to try some delicious food on the cheap, Austin has no shortage of great happy hour spots to scope out.
