Salty Sow, a mainstay in the growing restaurant row on Manor Road is the perfect spot for an extended happy hour catch-up with friends or family. Opened in May 2012, the restaurant is housed in an old building that was once a general store owned and operated by the famous jazz musician Robert Shaw. The charming building looks rather small from the outside but the layout features a partly covered patio and allows for many to dine at once.

Happy hour at Salty Sow is arguably one of the best deals in town and the packed house almost every night further proves that. From 4:30pm – 6:30pm every night of the week, the restaurant offers four of their signature cocktails and wines for just $5 each and five local draft beers for just $4 each. To make this happy hour even better, the tacos and small plates for sharing are all between $5-$6. Such a great deal!

When we arrived last week, we were seated out on the open patio in the back of the restaurant. It’s a spacious area with communal counter height tables. We ordered the Sow’rita with a splash of the blood orange juice and the Salty Sow’r, which is the restaurant's take on a whiskey sour. These particular drinks are not on the special menu but all of the drinks that are not are offered at $2 off their regular price during happy hour.

We ordered the Triple Fried Duck Fat Fries, Truffled Deviled Eggs and Crispy Brussels Sprouts Leaves. These three dishes in particular are some of my favorites in the entire Austin area. They’re each something so easy – fries, eggs and Brussels sprouts, but they’re all packed with so much delicious flavor and will leave you wanting more. The good news is that you can order more without breaking the bank!

The temperatures are starting to drop a bit, so now is the perfect time to sit outside on the patio and enjoy it. Check out the Salty Sow happy hour soon and make sure to make a reservation so you can take advantage of the great happy hour deals.
