It's a dream to stay at Hotel San Jose, tucked into a lush little paradise on South Congress, but it comes at a semi-steep price. Luckily, you don't have to be a hotel guest to enjoy their gorgeous outdoor lounge. The lounge serves a variety of beverages and snacks, including cheese plates and micheladas in the inner courtyard of the boutique hotel. It's open and serving beer, wine, sake, and snacks every day from 12pm to midnight. Especially appealing are the happy hour specials every day from 12pm to 5pm.

The loungeside pool is dreamy perfection

The patio has multiple seating options including one large communal  table near the back, shaded seating under an ivy-covered pergola, covered seating near the entry doors, and tables open to both sun and moonlight in the center. Overhead heaters are turned on when the temperature drops, but visitors are overall protected from windy days thanks to the courtyard setup of the lounge.

Though the lounge doesn't serve liquor, there's no shortage of drink options here. There's a great selection of red, white, rose, and bubbly wines, as well as sake. You'll also find creative house specialties like Froze (frozen rose), the Tokyo Mule (sake, ginger brew, lime, crystallized ginger), Rosso Amaro (prosecco and grapefruit juice, and a personal favorite of mine, Champassion (champagne and passionfruit juice). Or keep it simple with a beer- there are plenty to choose from, and even a gluten free option. Topo Chico, an Austin staple, is also available, along with soda for those who are looking for alcohol-free options.

Ordering snacks gives you the perfect excuse to linger as long as possible. The Bread, Olive, and Cheese Plate pictured below came with 3 selections of cheeses, fruit, honey, and pitted olives - you can add salami and mustard for a small upcharge. The Hummus Plate comes with Grandma's Hummus and a flavorful feta salsa. You can also keep it simple with a la carte options like wasabi peas, almonds, olives, edamame, and popcorn. Go big with the housemade Jimmies Chicken Wings.

Walk up service also available inside

We highly advise checking out the awesome gift shop in the lobby. You'll find baby gifts, onesies, their signature duvets, robes and toiletries, as well as a small selection of jewelry, sunglasses, ceramics, and clothing. If you dig the vibe of the hotel, you can pick up items to recreate the feeling at your own home. Or if you know someone who embodies the Liz Lambert design mantra, it's the perfect place for a gift.

Don't forget to check out the shop by the front desk

The Lounge at Hotel San Jose is one of those magical Austin landmarks that makes you feel like you're still in the funky, sleepy town that Austin once was. If you're lucky, you'll get to stay overnight in one of the gorgeous, minimalist bungalows. But even if you can't, the lounge is a place you can pretend for an afternoon or evening.
