The Rusty Mule offers a little something for everyone - craft beers and cocktails for the adults, fun play areas for the kids, and delicious food trailers for all. Enjoy all of this under acres of oak trees in a beautiful hill country setting, and you've found your new favorite hangout spot on Highway 290.

Grab a cocktail or craft beer at the Rusty Mule on Highway 290

When you first enter the Rusty Mule, you won't be able to resist ordering a craft beer or specialty cocktail from either the indoor bar or trailer. Next, you'll want to choose where to hang out among the various shaded options. Just be sure to follow the guidelines about where kids can play. They are really trying to make it a haven for both kids and adults, so even as a parent myself the rules seem fair. (Heads up to other parents - while it's a kid-friendly spot, there are no high chairs on the premises.)

Plenty of comfy, casual seating under the oak trees

After you've sipped your beverage and scoped out seating options, you'll want to check out the trailers. It seems that the food trucks vary on occasion, offering items like tacos, pizza, ice cream, and frito pie (I said it was kid-friendly!). One of the more permanent options is Chico and the Fox, and let's just say you'll be glad it's a fixture.

Chico and the Fox is known for their pulled pork, slow smoked for 12 hours in their signature rub and topped with delicious slaw. The sandwich was delicious and moist, but we actually found the wedge fries to be even more memorable - thick cut slices of potato and topped with secret seasoning. I couldn't get enough!

It's hard to say whether the Rusty Mule is  more bar or food truck park, but the distinction doesn't really matter when you can enjoy so much goodness all in one place. Be sure to also check out the live music schedule on weekends!
