F marks the spot.

With the announcement this week that our local hot dog institution Frank is expanding south to San Antonio, we thought it’d be the perfect time for a look at what’s made hot dogs and cold beer such a sensation.

This Jackalope's no tall tale.

Stating the obvious, Frank’s menu revolves around hot dogs. But don’t expect a plain Oscar Mayer weenie in a bun. All sausages are made either in-house or locally by Hudson Sausage Co., ensuring fresh quality meat. From there, the dogs take on some creative dressing. For instance the Jackalope features a sausage made from antelope, rabbit, and pork topped with cranberry compote, sriracha aioli, and cheddar. Another decadent favorite is the Carolina Pork It which is wrapped in bacon and deep fried. Each week you'll also find special dogs that aren't on the regular menu.

The Battle Jax is a special dog currently available.

Aside from dogs, Frank offers brunch and breakfast plates with plenty of eggs and breakfast sausage to go round. All that eating will make you thirsty and you’ll find plenty of cocktails and draft beers on the menu. Try the very southern Peach Plantation, a gin based drink with grapefruit, or the Old School Milk Punch, which mixes whisky with vanilla, milk, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Frank's Red Headed Stranger, a twist on a classic Bloody Mary.

Not only is Frank a great place for creative and casual fare, it’s also an entertainment spot. Most evenings, the restaurant features live music. In fact, tonight the restaurant will host a live music fundraiser with Go Greene Auto to support Gobble Gobble Give 2014. For every $10 raised, the organization can provide a Thanksgiving Day meal to those in need. Doors open at 9:30pm to the punctum records showcase featuring Dwight Smith, MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR, and Berkshire Hounds.
