Steps from the Texas State Capitol, La Traviata has been wowing patrons with their authentic, Italian cuisine since 2000. In addition to the critically acclaimed menu is the inviting atmosphere. The charming interior features stone-walls, twinkling chandeliers, and a polished eat-at-bar. It is the perfect locale for intimate lunch or dinner dates, celebratory occasions, or catching up with girlfriends over a glass of wine. But make sure to call ahead for reservations, as the cozy dining area only seats a limited number of people.

We dined at the downtown restaurant on a Saturday night. The eatery was packed, and the air was full of lively chatter. Our knowledgeable waitress helped us select a bottle of wine from their celebrated selection. You can order by the glass or by the bottle, but we were here to celebrate so we opted for a bottle.

The Primi (first course) offerings range from soups and salads to Beef Carpaccio served with fried radicchio. We ordered the special appetizer of the night, the Caprese Salad. The fresh arugula and mozzarella made this a standout. And of course, there is a never-ending supply of warm, fresh bread - my favorite!

Known for their pasta, it was a tough decision selecting entrees.  I went with the classic Spaghetti alla Bolognese. The spaghetti was tossed in veal, beef, and pork ragu and reminded me of dishes I had in Italy. We also ordered the special of the night, a seafood pasta dish complete with mussels, shrimp, and calamari. Needless to say we both finished our plates.

Seafood Pasta Special

If you have room left after all of the pasta, they offer a rotating selection of delicious desserts. A crowd favorite is the Polenta Pound Cake, a lemony moist confectionary treat. Another option is the Profiterole, a french inspired pastry.

Whether you have a reason to celebrate or not, make a reservation at La Traviata and dive into their delicious world of Italian fare. It won’t disappoint.
