Live Music and Cocktails at The Townsend

Sit under the chandelier as a reward for dressing up for work.

It’s been said that Austin is a drinking city with a live music problem. With that being said, there can never be enough drinking spots or live music venues. Lucky for us, we’ve got both at the trendy Townsend.

Our first round of drinks: A Tom Collins and an Old Fashioned.

We recently stopped in for post work drinks and snacks. The Cocktail Hour menu features all your favorite classic cocktails like the Old Fashioned and Tom Collins. Plus, the menu features a different tea sandwich each day.

The Reconstruction Julep

Justin Elliott, the former bar manager for Qui, designed the cocktail menu. It includes plenty of creative originals like the Ex-Novia (tequila based with amaro montenegro, sherry, and Americano rosa) and the Herringbone (bourbon based with METAXA 5-star, cardamaro, and guignolet). Aside from his mainstays, the bar regularly features special concoctions by guest bartenders.

Ajitama Toast

On the main food menu, you’ll find plenty of bar bites to whet your appetite. We started with an order of the Dumplings, fried and filled with beef and pork. They’re accompanied by a Vietnamese green sauce. We also ordered the Asian-inspired Ajitama Toast, which is a serving of 3 little toast slices piled with egg, soy, and topped with brightly colored tobiko.

We moved on to the Hot Chicken, a spicy thigh served on semolina flatbread with pickles. If you’re trying to feed a group, check out the Really Big Board, which comes with an assortment of cheese and charcuterie with special accompaniments.

Hot Chicken

Austin’s known for being casual and having an everything goes fashion sense. The Townsend is far from a dive bar and its classy decor may have you second guessing your outfit choices. You’ll find plenty of chandeliers glowing over tufted leather and suede lounge furniture. Toward the back of the bar, you’ll find the live music room, dimly lit and filled with bistro tables that surround the stage.

Sink into the dark booths for a nightcap.

The back room music venue.

Beautiful, classy bar

The Townsend is a great choice for your next group outing or date night. Plus, it's a great excuse to wear that finery out of the house.
