Lunch and Tea at The Steeping Room

If you’re sick of the usual tacos and sandwiches and you’re looking for a new way to lunch, you should check out The Steeping Room. Both locations (one on North Lamar and 45th, the other at the Domain) feature super calming rooms and menus inspired by holistic health, gourmet natural cooking, and Eastern herbs and teas.

At The Steeping Room, you can order snacks, larger plates, or platters to share. Some of our favorite small plates (called Tummy Tea-sers) include the Mediterranean Plate (hummus, dolmas, olives, feta, flatbread) and the Napa Rolls (two soft spring rolls filled with your choice of tofu, natural chicken or walnut-cucumber, napa cabbage, julienned carrots, and a blend of fresh mint, basil, cilantro and scallions).

If you want something warm and comforting, try the Curry Bowl (curry dish served with their grain of the day) or the Buddha Bowl (grain, bean, sautéed greens, sweet potato and either baked tofu or natural chicken. Choose one sauce: peanut sauce, cashew sauce, sesame tamari vinaigrette, balsamic vinaigrette, sesame lime), both pictured below. TSR also features a strata and soup of the day.

Healthy salads are available, but if you want something more substantial, try a tea sandwich. They offer traditional options like Cream Cheese and Cucumber, as well as Asian-inspired options like the Malaysian Pork Tenderloin or the Lapsang Douchong Chicken Salad. Tea sandwiches are served in the classic manner- crusts cut off, thin, and in 4 pieces.

The Tea Services are perfect for sharing with a friend. We tried the Century Oaks Tea Service, pictured below. You can 4 tea sandwich triangles (choose two kinds), a large scone, spread, jam, a tea cake, tea cookies and a pot of premium tea, mug of chai, press pot of coffee or tea-tail. There are 3 other Tea Services available, all with a different spin, and also a Children’s Tea Service.

The food is delicious at The Steeping Room, but don’t overlook the wide variety of beverages! They have an endless list of teas, available hot or cold. They also serve coffee and tea lattes, tea freezes (basically tea smoothies), and Tea-Tails- shaken iced tea “mocktails.” Our favorite is the super refreshing Mojteato- the intensity of Matcha (Japanese green tea powder) is paired with the effervesence of lime, mint, sparkling water and a touch of agave nectar. It’s also a great option for a drink to go after your meal.

Whether you're looking for the perfect place to meet a friend for lunch or just somewhere to relax with a magazine and a meal, The Steeping Room is a great choice.
