With the addition of the new neighborhood spot, Me Con Bistro, South Austinites no longer have to make the trek up north for delicious Vietnamese food. Located near Cafe Malta off of William Cannon, Me Con offers high-quality Asian dishes in a clean, comfortable and relaxed environment.

First things first. When you decide to pay them a visit for delicious pho or vermicelli, keep in mind the restaurant is currently BYOB. If you forget, there is a convenience store nearby that can always do the trick. The restaurant is surprisingly upbeat and "cool" considering the strip mall location, and bonus - if you're dining with kids, they have a fish tank with "Dory!" They also offer both pickup and delivery options.

The restaurant is already getting great reviews among locals for popular items like the Bangkok Chicken Wings. We took a more conservative approach in order to save room for our main courses and started with a simple but delicious egg drop soup made extra hearty with peas and carrots.

Egg drop soup was the perfect starter considering the generous portions of our main course.

For our main courses, we opted for one rice dish and one noodle dish. "The Works" vermicelli includes grilled pork, shrimp, sprouts, lettuce, pickled carrots, cucumber, peanuts and fish sauce. Their egg rolls are another popular appetizer, but luckily it was included with this dish as well - and we could see why they're such a hit.

"The Works" vermicelli will satisfy just about any Vietnamese-cuisine craving.

While this dish would be hard to beat, I'm going to go out on a limb and say I enjoyed the Shaken Beef even more. Deliciously moist beef atop perfectly cooked rice, served with a side of salt/pepper/lime sauce (that some might think isn't even necessary). What more could you ask for...except a perfectly runny fried egg on top of all of this goodness? The dish was bursting with flavor, and I'd order again in a heartbeat.

The Shaken Beef is definitely a new favorite and a dish I would return for.

It's always refreshing to see high-quality options pop up around Austin, especially outside of downtown. I'm thrilled that Me Con is already receiving positive reviews because I know I plan to return and can't wait to recommend it to other friends in South Austin. Check it out today!
