Pastry Paradise at Pie-e-tea

The owners of the ever popular Pieous pizza joint have opened a small side shop offering delicious coffee and pastries all morning long. After having seen some of the delectable treats on their Instagram account, I couldn't wait to try it myself.

We arrived around 7:30am on a Saturday morning (with baby in tow), and could not believe the steady stream of people showing up before 8:00. We weren't the only crazy ones! Pie-e-tea (pronounced like "piety") is basically the breakfast division of Pieous. The chef/owner uses the kitchen in the main restaurant and you'll see him carrying out fresh pastries to be ordered at the Pie-e-tea counter.

For starters, you'll want to select your beverage from the rather extensive menu. You can choose from drip coffees, cappuccinos, espressos, their signature "Choffee," and even Vietnamese coffees. We opted for two delicious lattes made with locally roasted coffee. They even offer a selection of fresh smoothies for when the weather warms up.

Plenty of beverages and pastries to choose from!

Next you'll feast your eyes upon row after row of fresh baked pastries. I'd been eyeing the Caramel Rolls on Instagram for a couple of weeks, so I was excited to try it for myself. Let's just say you'll definitely want to brush your teeth after eating this nutty, sticky bun to remove the gooey remnants. Next time I'll try the Cinnamon Sugar Morning Buns.

We also opted to sample the Pain au Chocolat, which managed to outshine the Caramel Roll. Almost all of the pastries are made from their signature sourdough, including the croissant, and the perfect amount of chocolate oozes from the center.

As if we hadn't already stretched our limits, we took a blueberry muffin for the road. The muffins are one of the few items that aren't made with sourdough. Sure muffins are a dime a dozen, but this one was a standout.

While Pie-e-tea is mostly a takeout shop, you can enjoy your morning coffee on their charming patio amidst the shade of oak trees. While the coffee and pastries are certainly not cheap, it was a perfect start to the weekend and I definitely plan to splurge again.
