Patika's New Menu is Everything You Need Right Now

Winter has officially hit Austin, and I've grown tired of throwing together a bowl of cereal in my PJs each morning. So when I heard Patika, South Lamar's picture-perfect coffee shop, launched a new breakfast and lunch menu, I couldn't wait to try it out. As someone who loves working in coffee shops but also goes from peckish to starving in under 10 minutes, I love when there's food to order besides small pastries. Patika's new menu is above and beyond delicious, affordable, and super convenient. Knowing that such a bright and beautiful place to work and have a cup of joe is right down the street is great, but knowing you can order some insanely delicious food there as well - perfection. I checked out their menu yesterday and couldn't have been more pleased (or full).

With an almond milk cappuccino to start, I was ready to feast. The Heirloom Tomato Toast with roasted garlic and thyme is such a savory option, perfect for breakfast or lunch (or even a snack). The "Not a PB&J" Toast was perhaps my favorite of the entire meal- peaches with walnuts on ricotta. I honestly can't even be sure how quickly I inhaled this, but it was definitely under a minute. I'll be going back for another. The hearty Breakfast Sandwich really hit the spot and felt very filling - we especially loved the melted Gruyere. The Red Quinoa Bowl is a sight for sore eyes, and a super healthy way to start the day. The Curry Bowl was in my top 2 favorites and perfect for a cold day. The crispy broccoli paired with the sweet potato and creamy sauce - so comforting.

Now that you know how much I loved it and have seen the mouthwatering photos, let's talk about the backstory and details here. Patika's downtown coffee trailer closed earlier this year (due to development in their space), so they re-conceptualized their trailer to serve as a fuller kitchen space and begin to implement more of their vision of what Patika can be. That original vision was inspired by the modern cafe culture, particularly in Australia. Patika loved their use of efficient spaces, using fresh and generally local ingredients in a small but satisfying menu. Typically, these include lighter fare emphasizing vegetables and local produce, served with delicious fresh breads or on toast, and with items that transition smoothly between breakfast and lunch. Patika partnered with the super talanted Alan Delgado, coming from Launderette after doing stints at Sway, Mettle and Clark’s. He brings a perspective attuned to what they had imagined: “approachable but interesting”, with an Austin/Texas/American spin.

Of course, Patika is also continuing their acclaimed pastry program led by Head Baker Bria Jones. They offer a rotating selection of four to six sweet and savory pastry items each day, including such items as French Onion Biscuits, Chocolate Cherry Scones, Blueberry Tequila Muffins, Margarita Cookies, and a Mixed Berry Breakfast Cake, and of course their Sunday-special Cinnamon Rolls that are, pretty much, to die for.

Currently menu service is offered Wednesday through Friday from 7am-2pm and Saturday/Sunday from 8am-3pm, and plan to expand out to 7 days a week as soon as possible. They’ll also be rolling out a special Saturday-Sunday brunch menu in the next few weeks and planning some grab-and-go items for folks who are in a hurry but still want a satisfying and healthy to-go option.

I really can't rave enough about how much love I felt for the new menu, and I can't wait to go back. Don't take my word for it- go try it for yourself!
