The team behind the favorite downtown coffee trailer, Patika Coffee, is excited to announce the official opening of their first brick and mortar location at 2159 South Lamar Boulevard. Patika Coffee will bring the same high quality coffee to the location with the addition of beer and wine as well as an in-house baking program and delicious evening snacks.

“When we opened the Patika kart in 2010, we had no idea if we'd eventually want to do a brick and mortar. But we quickly realized that the kart was a place where people could build friendships and, even in a small space, feel a sense of community; we knew we wanted more of that,” says Wigginton. “This space on South Lamar is the perfect neighborhood for us, as the people and community here are engaged, proud, and supportive of local businesses. We love that they're genuinely interested in being involved in the community and respond to places that seek to integrate into the neighborhood. We are excited to be part of it.”

Since opening the coffee trailer downtown in March 2010, originally on Congress between 2nd Street and 3rd Street before moving to the current location on 4th Street in 2012, Patika has created a loyal following and has gained a reputation as one of the best coffee shops in the city. Owned by Andy Wigginton and Nick Krupa, Patika was inspired by time spent in California, and Blue Bottle Coffee in particular.

Patika serves coffee from quality roasters that are thoughtfully selected by the team. They will expand into a multi-roaster shop, working with some of the top national roasters including Austin’s Cuvee Coffee and others. Patika's coffee menu includes a house and a guest espresso, which can be enjoyed on their own or as any number of traditional drinks including macchiato, cappuccino, latte, and more. Additionally, Patika will be offering a rotating selection of pour-over coffee options as well as brewed and French press coffee and their own formula cold-brewed iced coffee. They also offer non-coffee drinks such as hot and iced teas, Italian sodas, chai, and house-made hot chocolate.

New to the South Lamar location, Patika will have a curated wine list and an evolving menu of seasonal and year-round beers available, in addition to a morning pastry program and evening bites. Patika’s in-house baking program will feature a rotating selection of six to eight sweet and savory pastry items each day, including mushroom, leek, and bleu cheese foldovers; chipotle, bacon, and corn muffins; blueberry basil muffins; lemon lavender cookies; browned butter, chocolate chunk cookies; and a mixed berry breakfast cake. During the evening, Patika will feature charcuterie and cheese plates served with Easy Tiger bread, classic bar snacks like nuts and popcorn, flatbreads, spreads, and desserts like Crème Brulee.

“The first thing people think of when they think of the Patika kart is the friendly folks working there,” says Wigginton. “When we hired our first baristas in 2010, we absolutely got lucky. We hired two incredibly personable guys who helped us cement a culture of friendliness, and we're especially lucky that they both still work for us. We've brought on more folks as we've grown, and each one has made the whole group better. I'm lucky to work with people who are happy, interested in what they're doing, interested in the lives of our customers, and incredibly involved in helping us open the brick and mortar space. This absolutely would not be happening if we didn't have the team we do.”

With an appreciation for beautiful contemporary design, Wigginton chose the space on South Lamar after seeing its original mid-century elements. Utilizing natural light during the day and subtle lighting in the evening, Patika was designed to give a pared down, welcoming lounge feel to its guests. Referencing a mid-century aesthetic, the space is contemporary yet warm and accessible.

Patika Coffee is located at 2159 South Lamar Boulevard. Patika is open Monday to Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to midnight, and Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
