Spice up your Sunday Brunch at Alcomar

Alcomar (previously El Chile) is a new Latin American concept with a focus on seafood. The restaurant has gotten a bit of a facelift with a brightly decorated interior reminiscent of a seaside eatery. It’s just the kind of atmosphere that you need when forced to sit inside on a 100 degree day.

We started our meal with drinks from their “Almuerzo” menu. The Bloody Cesar features serrano-citrus infused Tito’s vodka, house bloody mix, and even a raw oyster! We also loved the refreshing Watermelon Basil Mimosa. Even better, these drinks are discounted between 11am and 3pm.

While waiting for the main event, we were treated to a complimentary appetizer of tostones and vegetables ceviche to whet our appetites.

For one of our entrees, we simply could not resist the Omelet and Mojo Lobster, served with poblanos, goat cheese, asparagus, and potatoes. At $16, this is definitely a pricey brunch/lunch option, but the portion size and quality make you quickly forget about the price tag. The lobster was fresh and delicious, and the entire meal was melt-in-your-mouth good.

We were also intrigued by the Fried Eggs and Rice - perfectly runny eggs over Mexican rice beside a bed of sweet plantains and the best mole sauce I’ve ever had. This dish is also perfect if you’re dining with anyone who is not a seafood lover.

As far as I’m concerned, Alcomar is the best thing to happen to Sunday brunch in Austin in a long time. And the good news is their brunch/lunch menu is offered daily from 11-3pm. I’m also excited to head back to the restaurant to try out their dinner options and everyday happy hour from 3-6pm. I encourage you to do the same!
