Spring has arrived and Austin is looking lovelier than ever! After a winter of cold snaps and ice storms, you're probably anxious to get outside and enjoy the sun. Luckily, some of our favorite eateries will box up your meal to go, making for the perfect spring time picnic. Here are some delicious ideas for take out along with nearby spots to spread out.

Fresa's Chicken

Fresa's Chicken
Walk right up to the window and grab some grilled chicken from this stylish Mexican eatery on Lamar. You can also add salads and tortas or choose from their delicious sides that include Mexican street corn, crispy brussels sprouts, and grilled vegetables. Obviously, you'll want to pick up some of their fresh salsa and guacamole as well. The restaurant is designed for taking your meal to go and luckily there is a park nearby. Shoal Creek crosses just behind the restaurant through Duncan Park. This green spot is little and almost hidden in plain sight in downtown Austin.

Pinthouse Pizza
Pizza is the original take out so it's an obvious choice. One of the draws of this restaurant is the micro-brewery offerings, which would be difficult to sneak out with. But you don't need beer to enjoy these artisanal pies, crafted with local and organic ingredients. Take a look at their monthly “Off the Map Pie” for something special. This item rotates every month and explores new combinations and flavors. Banh Mi is on the menu this month and features pepper wurst, jalapeños, and pickled onions garnished with cilantro and siracha hot sauce. Or feel free to grab a classic pie. Once you've picked up your pizza, head south a few blocks on Burnet to Ramsey Park. This spot is a neighborhood gathering place, busy with dog walkers and sports enthusiasts.

This eatery offers some of the best tacos in town with several options for everyone in your group. The original location on Spyglass happens to be right across the street from an entrance to the Barton Creek Greenbelt. Hike on down to the creek to dip your toes in the water while you nosh on a Cowboy taco. Just be sure to grab enough Doña sauce for the road.

 tam deli

Tam Deli and Cafe
This popular north Austin spot serves up authentic Vietnamese Banh Mi and treats. All of their sandwiches are served with Tam Deli's mayonnaise, pickled carrots, cucumber, cilantro, and jalapeños. Try out the grilled lemongrass beef sandwich with some steamed buns. With your food in tow, trek up north Lamar a few miles to the Walnut Creek Metro Park. This off-leash dog park is more of a forest with winding trails that are popular with mountain bikers. Don't worry, there are also plenty of picnic tables as well as multiple softball fields and a swimming pool if you're looking for activities.

Enjoy the spring weather and make your next picnic a little more exciting with one of the many to go options available in the city. Leave a comment to let us know your favorite picnic spot!
