You're bound to work up an appetite shopping on 2nd Street, and Numero28 is the perfect place to quench your thirst and satiate your hunger. This welcoming Italian restaurant has a lovely garden patio tucked away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, and is a nice spot for a romantic date or meal with friends. Now that the temps are dropping, you're sure to feel warmed by Numero28's comforting food and wood-fired pizzas, as well as their wine and outdoor space heaters.

Right off the bat, it's hard not to order everything on Numero 28's appetizer list. With two Aranciana (stuffed rice ball) options, delicious polpettes (meatballs), and even carpaccio, nearly everything on the menu is almost as heartwarming as it is bellywarming. We opted to try the Frittura di calamare y zucchine for $11- fried calamari and zucchini with marinara sauce. Unlike many American restaurants, Numero28 cooked it perfectly. There's nothing worse than biting into fried calamari and only tasting crunchy fried oil. The light frying technique used by Numero28 really played up the delicious taste and texture of the squid and zucchini. This is how it should be done, people! A squeeze of lemon over the top only further perfected the combination of flavors and textures.

Up next was the Rucola e parmagiano salad for $10. This heaping salad was enough for two to share, and again, nicely executed. The combination of arugula, fennel, apples, marinated onions, lemon zest, shaved parmesan, caramelized walnuts, and a bright lemon-balsamic dressing married together wonderfully. It's a great way to get some greens in before indulging in bread, cheese, and meat, as the Italians do. If arugula isn't your preferred green, you can opt for a Caesar salad, mixed greens salad, and even a Sicilian tuna salad. The salad game is on point at Numero28.

One recommendation we're happy to make is to be sure to work Numero28's meatballs into your meal - you won't regret it. We tried the Cabucio con polpette panini, and it was the best meatball sandwich we've ever had! The portion is large and absolutely enough to share or bring home. The combination of meatballs, marinara, melted mozzarella, and basil, paired with the soft yet crispy-on-the-outside bread was to die for.

A rookie mistake - we were full before we even got to try the pizza! But the smell alone told us it was worth a trip back, so we can't wait to go check them out. Judging by other tables, the Tartufo Pizza, the Capricciosa, and the Patate pizza looked most interesting. There are also two special pizzas made with Buffalo Mozzarella, and those are surely worth a try.

If you're looking for cheese and meat minus the bread, don't pass up Numero28's charcuterie and cheese selections. With nearly 20 options of meat and cheese, the combinations are endless. The helpful waitstaff can also help you narrow down your choices. Get a selection of 3 for $11, 5 for $15, or 7 for $19.

If you've managed to save room for dessert, or if you happen to stroll by and need a sweet treat, try Numero28's gelato and dessert menu! Flavors change weekly for gelato, and you can also find tiramisu, semifreddo almond mousse, panna cotto, or cannoli.

Whether you're stopping in for simply a glass of wine, a full meal, or just dessert, you can't go wrong with the delicious menu, welcoming atmosphere, and affordable options at Numero28.
