Austin’s ever changing landscape sometimes means saying goodbye to old neighborhood favorites. Burnet Road’s Poodle Dog Lounge was an Austin icon that closed up a little over a year ago. The space was soon snatched up by local bar baron Randall Stockton, who’s done a bit to modify the joint while keeping the same vibe that made the spot popular. Ironically named, the Aristocrat Lounge is a casual drinking spot for everybody.

If you love to wax nostalgic about old Austin, there’s plenty of signage that remains bearing the bar’s former name. Most of the interior has been updated with a sleek color scheme of black, plum, and green. Some tasteful editing went in to thinning out the wall decor, keeping framed black and white photos of Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe. Several vinyl booths line the room, offering plenty of room for large groups. Out back there’s a spacious patio with plenty of additional seating.

Check the bar's Facebook page for upcoming music shows.

If sitting and drinking isn’t enough activity for you, there’s also shuffleboard, pool, and skeeball. Some nights you can even check out live music, although be warned the place gets loud.

A Velvet Rut (made with ginger-beet infused vodka) and a Durak Mule.

The biggest change is the addition of cocktails to the menu. In it’s previous life, the Poodle Dog sold beer but let you bring your own liquor. The speciality cocktails on the menu include the Durak Mule, a variation of a Moscow Mule, and the Frozen Hot Toddy.

Overall, there’s just enough dinge to feel like you’ve dusted off a forgotten relic but it’s too trendy for your grandfather. Join the aristocracy for a drink this weekend!
