Austin is home to many delicious barbecue restaurants, and the La Barbecue food truck is one that can't be missed. The meat is tasty, and the food truck park atmosphere is friendly and fun.

If you’re looking for upscale BBQ to enjoy indoors or out, Lamberts is the place to go this fall.

Popular West Campus food truck, Slab BBQ, just opened a grown up brick and mortar spot in North Austin. Don’t fret if you’re a fan of the mobile version, it’s staying open. Placing the focus on sandwiches gives Slab BBQ a great niche spot in Austin’s expanding BBQ scene.

The Pure Gold That is Tex Mex BBQ

Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ is an unassuming trailer located on Brodie Lane, south of all of Austin’s usual hubbub. You usually can’t miss the trailer when you drive by, as it’s easily spotted by the long line winding through the parking lot. Valentina’s regularly sells out of their delicious food, so waiting in line is pretty standard business here. And we'll tell you right now, it's well worth any wait. Valentina's was started by Miguel Vidal, a San Antonio native who grew up BBQing with family. Miguel notes that, "Fresh hand-rolled flour tortillas, spicy salsa, avocado, cilantro, and lime are a family favorite when it comes to accompanying the BBQ."

The magical fusion of Tex Mex and BBQ is heavenly. You'll find smokey, super tender meat paired with spicy salsas, soft flour tortillas, and tangy slaw. It's one of Austin's most casual and special fusion restaurants. Valentina's serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and we always recommend ordering more than you think you'll eat as the leftovers only get better with time when you stick them in the fridge.

On our most recent visit, we showed up around 11:30am during SXSW, expecting a super long line. We were pleasantly surprised to be the 6th person in line! We ordered the Smoked Brisket Taco, the Smoked Carnitas Taco, the Pulled Chicken Sandwich, and a side of Smoked Corn. Holy heaven! This food is legendary.

The haul; food from Valentina's (details above)

The Smoked Brisket Taco is made with sea salt lime guacamole and tomato serrano salsa. It's tender, juicy, and super flavorful with a little kick. The Smoked Carnitas Taco is made with carmelized onion, cilantro, and tomatillo salsa - another winner. The Pulled Chicken Sandwich is served on a fresh roll with tangy slaw, sea salt lime guacamole, and mesquite smoked BBQ sauce. This was more than enough food for 2 people, and I was thrilled to even end up with some leftovers. It made for quite a midnight snack.

Valentina's also serves meat by the pound, and we can't wait to pick some up for our next house party. You can order brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, pork or beef ribs, and sausage. We hear the ribs are not to be missed! Usually sides are an afterthought, especially with seriously flavorful food like BBQ, but the sides here are phenomenal. The smoked corn was the best corn I've had prepared any way, ever. You can also get sides of charro beans, rice, potato salad, and, of course, chips and queso. There are also specials every day, so don't forget to check out the board when you arrive.

Valentina's was nothing short of amazing, we can't wait to get back and try it out for breakfast!
