Perched on a hillside overlooking downtown, the Spanish import 100 Pizzitas has set up shop slinging Mediterranean inspired tapas. 100 Pizzitas (Cien Pizzitas) puts a Spanish spin on everyone’s favorite pies by shrinking them down to tapas size and offering 100 combinations.

Bufalina, the first ever Neapolitan pizzeria in Austin still draws big crowds even after being open for a year and a half. Be sure to arrive early to ensure you get a seat and enjoy the delicious food.

Get away from the downtown crowds by popping into The Backspace on San Jacinto and 6th.

Unit D Pizzeria Debuts on Manor Road

Life on Manor Road keeps getting better as new bars and restaurants pop up on the east side strip. The neighborhood now welcomes Unit D Pizzeria to the same building that houses Dai Due and Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop. The restaurant adds one more stop to Austin’s craze for artisanal pizza and fine Italian food.

The space is trendy and modern with an emphasis on wooden detailing and white tile. Wood planks artfully diffuse the overhead lighting, keeping the interior dim when the sun goes down. While there is a row of small tables, most seats can be found around large communal ones. If you’re lucky, your group can snag the corner booth that features a tufted leather padded wall.

We started with an order of the Broccoli Rabe.

Obviously the menu focuses on Neapolitan-style pizza, but unlike other shops in town these are slightly on the smaller side. With a party of three, we started with a small plate of Broccoli Rabe and moved on to two pizzas. For variety, we tried the Sausage (featuring tomato, lamb, fennel, mozzarella, fontina, pecorino, and dill) and Greens (topped with garlic, stracciatella, arugula, parmesan, lemon, and truffle) pizzas. With the lemon’s added tang, the Greens pizza was our group’s favorite.

We also took an order of the Sausage pizza.

Aside from the main items, the menu also offers small plates, salads, cheese and charcuterie boards, and of course desserts. While we didn’t take an order of sweets on this visit, we can’t wait to try the Peach Oatcake (which features peaches, oat, brown sugar, mascarpone, basil, and almond) on our next visit.

The Greens pizza was our favorite for the evening.

If you're in the neighborhood, try out Unit D Pizzeria this weekend!
