There's new tapas joint in town, and it's is off to a great start. For awhile there, Austinites were relying heavily on Malaga for Spanish tapas, but we now have both Winebelly and Barlata! Winebelly just opened in the space that used to be Green Muse Coffeeshop on Oltorf near the South 1st intersection. The Tran family is behind the opening, the same family that owns Hai Ky Vietnamese restaurant. They've debuted a short list of small and large plates, which gives diners flexibility based on whether they're in the mood to share or not. Alongside the dinner menu, you'll find a super affordable and high-quality wine list. We found that the markup on these wines is much lower than some of the other restaurants in town. It's a smart idea- keep the wine affordable, and you'll have diners who want to stay longer, order multiple bottles, and probably a few plates extra for noshing.

Winebelly's menu features a good variety of smaller and larger plates. Some of our favorite small plates include the Cheese (pictured above) and/or Meat Plates, Shishito Peppers, Summer Corn Soup (pictured above) and the Chicken Liver Mousse.

If you're slightly more hungry, some great options include the Charred Summer Vegetables (a favorite at our dinner) or Fried Quail (pictured below). For sharing, we recommend the Skirt Steak, Crispy Pig Ears, and the Orecchiette, as there's plenty to go around.

If you're a frequent Winebelly visitor, don't be worried about getting burned out on the menu. They frequently have new specials, like the scrumptious octopus dish below.
