A Fun-filled Saturday Outing

Do you ever get to the weekend and realize that for the first time in weeks, you are in town and have no set plans? We love it when we can plan fun outings that don't revolve around things we have to get done. Try this fun Saturday outing that begins with breakfast at Hypnotic Donuts, includes a stroll through the Dallas Arboretum, and ends with lunch at Good 2 Go Tacos.

Hypnotic Donuts is tucked away in an unassuming strip mall in Lakewood, but the food is anything but ordinary. Most of the donuts and biscuits are way over the top and ridiculously elaborate, but all of them are insanely delicious. There isn't much seating indoors, but these donuts taste just as good whether you eat them at a table, on the car ride home, or at a picnic on the Arboretum lawn. This shop has won multiple "Best Donuts" awards, and we heartily agree with those accolades.

Amy Chicken Biscuit

We could eat the Amy Chicken Biscuit everyday if we had to. It layers fried chicken, bacon, pickles, southwest spicy mustard, cheddar cheese, and honey between a fluffy but not crumbly biscuit. The combination of the salty pickles, the sweet honey, and the tangy sauce is out of this world. We love how the biscuit holds up to the heartiness of the chicken and is easy to eat. The whole biscuit sandwich is something you will rave about to anyone who will listen.

All of the donuts are absolutely delicious. Even the plain glazed was surprisingly impressive. Thicker than most glazed donuts, the light yeast-raised dough is sweet and recommended for anyone who doesn't want one of the elaborately decorated other options. Our favorite donut was the Canadian Healthcare. A long john donut is bathed in a maple glaze, lathered in syrup, and has a salty piece of bacon laid over the top. It tastes like you're eating a pancake. But somehow, it's better.

Evil Elvis and Espresso Yo Self

The Evil Elvis is a masterpiece of a donut. This donut is topped with peanut butter, bacon, banana, and honey. It's messy to eat, but it's so good that donut shops everywhere have tried to recreate it. For coffee and chocolate lovers, try the Espresso Yo Self. A chocolate cake donut has an espresso icing, salted caramel ribbon, and flecks of coffee grind. You'll be on a sugar and a caffeine high all at the same time.

Now that you're about ready to pop, head five minutes down the street to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden to walk off a tiny percentage of those calories. The Dallas Blooms festival continues through April 22, but any time is a great time to stroll through the gardens.

Parking at The Arboretum is $10, and Adult tickets are $15 each. They also have fun activities for families and events for children throughout the year. Their Spring Concert Series will feature returning favorites and new artists, and you can get 1/2 off the single ticket price by purchasing subscription packages. The concerts are fun ways to enjoy beautiful weather and a picnic with friends in a gorgeous setting.

After strolling through the gardens and taking your time as you soak in the sunshine, head to Good 2 Go Taco down the street. Located in the same building as Cultivar Coffee, you can have breakfast tacos whenever you want along with a delicious cup of coffee. With a slogan like "Farm to Taco Dining," you know every dish you get will be fresh and utilize local ingredients. Their lunch tacos are unique and delicious. Served in a hearty flour tortilla, they are sure to be filling and tasty.

The Navin R. Johnson with jerk chicken, coconut rice, and mango slaw paired with the Swine Blue with pulled pork and a blue cheese slaw.

Saturdays are great for getting out and enjoying your city. Use this trip plan for your next weekend outing and have a fun day you won't soon forget.
