As fall settles in, there’s nothing quite like a fresh cup of coffee with its aroma filling the crisp air. Thankfully, the DFW coffee scene is flourishing with its modern shops, unique roasts and full-bodied brews to keep us cozy and caffeinated all season long. Here are some of our top places to grab a cup of joe.

Ascension Coffee
Looking for knowledgable baristas, tasty snacks and wine? Ascension Coffee serves up all this and more. Ascension aims to be a home away from home, and they’re doing just that. With a concept that’s part Australian style coffee shop, part European cafe, this LocalSugar favorite is a must for a drink or a bite any time of day.

Houndstooth Coffee
Austin-based chain Houndstooth brings coffee, tea, beer, wine, pastries and more to Dallas in a hip cafe setting. Their newest location in Sylvan Thirty is also now home to Jettison, Houndstooth’s venture into craft cocktails. And yes, you can expect some of these delectable cocktails to be infused with their expertly roasted coffee.

Mudsmith
A cool and calming staple to the liveliness of Lower Greenville, Mudsmith is known for their coffee, but they also dish out fantastic sandwiches (like the breakfast sammie) and pour beer and wine on rotation. While the inside is spacious, the people watching from their patio facing Greenville is a great way to enjoy an afternoon.

Drip Coffee
Nestled into the heart of Dallas’ Park Cities, Drip Coffee is a must for coffee lovers, bringing expertise to their cups of joe. With a number of diverse varieties, Drip hand roasts their beans in small batches, ensuring the freshest of experiences. Perfect for a grab-and-go beverage, Drip Coffee may just be your new favorite way to start the day. Take note that they close at 6 pm daily, so there’s no pulling an all-nighter here.

Cultivar Coffee
This Dallas micro-roaster is home to handcrafted espresso and single-origin coffees. With three different locations, you’ll find an array of options at each one. Pick up an artisan sandwich at their East Dallas coffee bar, which shares a space with Goodfriend Package, or grab a beer or wine at their stand alone Oak Cliff location. Not in Dallas? Visit their Denton location, attached to Hypnotic Donuts, and give the chicken biscuits a try. If you’re looking to bring Cultivar home, order single bags from their website, or pick up a bag at a number of Dallas retailers including Green Grocer, Emporium Pies, Scardello Artisan Cheese and many more.

Cafe Victoria
Victory Park got its first coffee shop with Cafe Victoria, and we are loving it. Even without the divine coffee, we’d return for the bright, happy atmosphere and friendly vibes. That being said, Argentinian owner Luciana Gómez takes coffee culture seriously and wants her patrons to revel in their espressos, lattes and cappuccinos, all made with Oak Cliff Roasters coffee. Plus, there’s no up-charge for almond or soy milk. Cafe Victoria also brings in treats from some of the city’s favorite bakeries like Empire Baking Co., AmazeBallz and Bisous Bisous. Whether you live in Victory Park or are just visiting, Cafe Victoria makes it worth the trip.

Royal Blue Grocery
Ideal for grab-and-go coffee, sandwiches and more, this Austin-based grocer set up its Dallas home in Highland Park Village. Drop by for a caffeinated pick-me-up and check out their unique gourmet offerings, one-of-a-kind gifts and extensive floral selection. Be sure to “like” their Facebook page to keep up with events such as wine and food tastings.

Crooked Tree Coffeehouse
Uptown’s Crooked Tree Coffeehouse is one of the coziest shops around town. With cappuccino in hand, sink into one of their comfy couches and stay for a while. An ideal place for study or conversation, this warm and inviting coffee shop serves up delicious organic coffee, features rotating local art and provides live music on the weekends. Plus, in true coffeehouse fashion, Crooked Tree stays open late, which is good, because in a place this homey, you’re going to want to stick around.

Oak Lawn Coffee
There are many reasons to love Oak Lawn Coffee, but one of them will make you feel good inside. A portion of all of their proceeds go to local nonprofits, so you can spring for that large coffee for a good cause. Bring your friends or work solo, either way you’re sure to enjoy their crafted coffee and espresso options. Try the iced coffee or a lavender latte. Drop by in the mornings for breakfast tacos or any time of day for delectable fresh baked pastries.

White Rock Coffee
Grab gourmet coffee, full-bodied teas and delicious snacks at White Rock Coffee, Lakewood’s neighborhood hotspot for drinks and treats. Check out any of their specials like the White Rocker - a LocalSugar recommendation. In a rush? Both of their locations have convenient drive-thru windows for those on the go.

Coffee House Cafe
Coffee House Cafe is a North Dallas gem for organic, fair trade coffee and amazing, all day breakfast. It’s great for the family any time of day, and you can even bring your four-legged family member and enjoy their pet-friendly patio. Try the Signature Latte infused with caramel and vanilla, or imbibe on any of their beer and wine selections. Need a quick pick up? Coffee House Cafe also has a drive thru window.
