Enjoy Brick Oven Pizza and More at Matchbox

Grab a slice of artisan, brick oven pizza and wash it down with a crisp, refreshing cocktail at Matchbox this summer. This gem's ambiance fits perfectly with Preston Hollow's vibe, using both exposed brick and warm woods to create an inviting and contemporary atmosphere for dinner and drinks.

Simply put, the cucumber gin and tonic is the best drink I have had this summer. The fresh cucumber is paired expertly with the juniper flavor of the gin, creating a potent, yet soothing cocktail. Whether coming off from a long day of work, or looking for a way to beat the heat, the cucumber gin and tonic is a drink to enjoy slowly and savor the moment.

Happy Hour is from 3-6pm Monday through Friday, making the cucumber gin and tonic an even better deal

To best enjoy your cocktail or dinner, start by ordering the calamari. This dish comes with a side of jalapeno jelly, a spicy dip that is unlike any other. The sweet and spicy jelly is contrasted by the crunchy texture of the panko calamari -- a combination of texture and taste that elevates Matchbox's calamari above others in both innovation and creativity.

The jalapeno jelly makes this calamari dish truly unique.

Matchbox is known for their brick oven cooked pizzas, and the Charcuterie #1 and the Charcuterie #2 do not disappoint. The first features salami, house made mozzarella, and smoked gouda served on a garlic salt crust. The pizza features a great blend of sauce and toppings, and a slightly thicker crust than thin crust pizza. On the other hand, the Charcuterie #2 is a hearty combination of capicola, mozzarella, and marinated fresno peppers, topped with parmesan cheese. The fresno peppers add a mild spice to the pizza, which brings out the salted garlic crust -- arguably the best part of the pizza.

If you can't decide between the Charcuterie #1 (left) and the Charcuterie #2 (right), split the pizza and get both.

Between the double chocolate brownie, churros, lemon sorbet, and ice cream, the dessert trio is a monstrous dish best shared with friends and family. While the churros are light as air and taste like a sugary cloud, the double chocolate brownie has bits of crunchy chocolate woven into its soft, melt-in your mouth, exterior. Lastly, the lemon sorbet is tart and great for those with a sweet tooth.

The dessert trio features a spectrum of temperatures from hot (brownie), to warm (churro), to chilling (sorbet).

Matchbox's interior is large and inviting, but the restaurant, and especially the fire heated patio, can be busy on weekends and weeknights, making it a bit difficult to snag a table. To secure a seat without a wait, try coming during Happy Hour from 3-6pm Monday through Friday. Whether you are in the mood for a brick oven pizza or a cocktail on the patio, Matchbox may become your go-to spot for relaxed dining.
