You’ll smell Greenville Avenue’s newest bakery well before you even spot it. Tucked into a quaint space next to The Blind Butcher, Village Baking Co.’s new Boulangerie is unassuming and easy to miss if you pass by too quickly. But as soon as you catch the aromas of the croissants, pastries, and treats baking inside, visiting the Boulangerie will become a necessity.

The wall-length pastry counter is filled with tempting treats that are baked fresh daily.

The Boulangerie, like the original Village Baking Co. location, specializes in serving freshly-baked, authentic pastries inspired by the flavors of France. However, this new location offers an extended menu featuring additional items – like sandwiches, quiches, and specialty coffees – that make it a perfect spot for social snacking. The interior is bright, airy, and spacious; a wall-length pastry counter filled with delights tempts customers, while large windows surrounding the oven reveal the baking magic behind the goodness.

Small cafe tables create indoor dining space, while large windows offer a glimpse at the oven and baking pastries.

Selecting a treat proves to be the hardest part of visiting the Boulangerie; one look at their lengthy pastry counter will leave you craving one of everything. If you’re overwhelmed by the vast selection, go with a classic and choose the Pain au Chocolat, a delicious chocolate croissant baked to warm, flaky perfection. Or, try one of their most popular selections, the Chocolate Almond Croissant, but be warned that these tend to sell out quickly.

The Pain au Chocolat is flaky, warm, and filled with creamy melted chocolate.

Another delicious choice is the Napoleon, a sugar-dusted pastry filled with sweet cream and fresh fruit. Or if you’re seeking a savory choice, try the Pain au Jambon, which features ham and gruyere inside a light and buttery croissant. For something a bit heavier, they also serve a variety of sandwiches and quiches that are sure to hit the spot. Be sure to order a drink to accent your meal; we recommend trying either the freshly-squeezed orange juice or one of their specialty coffees for a perfect complement.

Napoleons at the Boulangerie are baked to golden perfection and piled high with fresh cream and fruit.

There are benches outside for relaxed snacking in nice weather, but snagging a table inside is always a treat because you can watch the bakers in action. The Boulangerie is a perfect place for grabbing breakfast or a light brunch, but it gets busiest on weekends, so expect a crowd. Be sure to plan time for finding nearby parking, as it can be tight on the street, but even a short walk is worth it for a bite of one of their pastries. If nothing else, it’s worth it to experience what Heaven must smell like the moment you walk through their doors.
