Seafood boils have long been popular in southern states like Louisiana, Georgia and South Carolina as a way to enjoy fresh seafood and the company of good friends. In Dallas we've enjoyed this experience at The Boiling Crab, (which has its fans waiting up to two hours just to get in for a table) and now we have the new Shell Shack on McKinney. If you've never had a Seafood Boil before, you are in for a treat!

Chicken and Sausage Gumbo

Start creating your Boil from a list of fresh shellfish including Shrimp, King Crab, Dungeness Crab, Snow Crab and Crawfish (when in season). Then select your flavor-Garlic, Cajun, Lemon Pepper or the house specialty-the Kitchen Sink. Lastly, you can choose the heat level from Mild to Diablo. If you choose to, you can add Corn (small cob), Andouille Sausage or Potatoes to the boil. While your Boil is being prepared, try a bowl of Gumbo or Clam Chowder as a starter, then strap on a bib and wait.

Fresh Snow Crab

When your Boil is ready the meal will be brought to your table in a clear, plastic bag where they pour the contents directly on the white paper on the table-either in the middle "family style" or per person-depending on how you order. Then dig in. You will have tools to de-shell your shrimp and crab or you can order your Boil "Uptown Style" and have it de-shelled for you for a little extra $. You can get all of the seafood in the bag or just one. We opted for the Shrimp in the Kitchen Sink flavor but ordered the fresh snow crab with the sauce on the side. Both were delicious! The French Fries, with a seasoning of salt and sugar, make a great side to the spicy seafood.

Automatic Hand Washer

When you've finished your meal, pushed back your chair, and ripped off the bib, take a minute to clean up at the automatic hand washer in the bar. Insert your hands in the designated holes and the water will whoosh any remaining residue away!
