West Village recently welcomed its newest restaurant, Public School 214, and it rightfully deserved an A+ from us. The school themed decor and composition-style menu give a fun twist to the chef-driven gastropub. The patio makes an incredible location for lunch or dinner on a nice evening. Or stop by the bar for "Recess," their version of happy hour, served Monday through Friday from 5 pm to 7 pm.

Long Strange Tripel

PS 214 provides a variety of drinks, offering craft cocktails, rotating taps, and "study group" beer pints to share with your table. Our waiter recommended the Crushed Velvet based on our interest in a Moscow Mule-esque cockatil. The vodka based cocktail had a blueberry and blackberry reduction, lavender and a hint of ginger served in a copper mug. For the beer drinker in our group, the waiter brought out three different samples from their rotating taps to sample. Lastly, we decided to form a study group and share a bottle of Long Strange Tripel from Boulevard Brewing Company. The study group beers make a great selection for sharing among the table.

The Cutting Board

A cheese board is the way to our heart so we started off with The Cutting Board: manchego, gorgonzola, cheddar, jam, caramelized onions, house-made mustard, spicy soppressata and capicola.

Crispy Buffalo Cauliflower

Crispy fried cauliflower with bleu cheese aioli and buffalo sauce delivers the perfect kick of spice and serves as a nice substitute to typical chicken wings.

Mezze Plate

The Mezze Plate, is an excellent choice for Mediterranean meal lovers. This board featured baba ghanoush, hummus, creamy tapenade marinated feta, crispy chickpeas, and grilled pita bread. Not only was this plate delicious, we also loved that they brought more pita bread for dipping.

Bacon Cheddar Tots

To end our appetizer adventure, we tried the unbelievable Bacon Cheddar Tots. We are not exaggerating when we say these are the best tater tots we've ever had. With each bite comes the right amount of crispy bacon, cheese and potatoes, and the Sriracha ketchup was an excellent compliment. It was like tater tot heaven.

Wild Mushroom & Taleggio Pizza

An entree selection we loved was the Wild Mushroom & Taleggio Pizza. This hand tossed pizza was topped with wild mushrooms, bechamel, grana padano, arugula, and white truffle oil. Visit during "Recess" and it's only $7 for this delicious pizza. If you're looking for another entree, you can't go wrong with choices like the Huntsman Burger, CCB (hand-held Cobb sandwich) or the Temptress Stout Short Ribs

As if Uptown needed any more outstanding restaurants, PS 214 adds to the list of incredible choices within walking distance from West Village. Between the food, drinks, and the fun school theme {where else can you still have recess?!}, this place rocks. We can't wait to go back and get schooled!
