Meddlesome Moth, owned in part by the much-loved Captain Keith Schlabs of Flying Saucer fame, is a classy little joint that scales down the tap list in favor of a quality-over-quantity approach. The taut (yet diverse) menu explores the delicate and often mysterious interplay between beer and food. More on that later.

Atmosphere wise, it’s a homerun. Whether you’re at the bar, the main dining area or the outdoor patio, there’s plenty of breathing room. And while it may be spacious, it still manages to feel cozy.

The beer menu is full of both old favorites and weird surprises. From rich stouts and velvety porters, to snappy sours and palate-crushing IPA’s, they’ve got most anything you’re craving. And be sure to ask what they’ve got on cask. (I was treated to a pour of the ridiculously prized Saint Arnold Pumpkinator) Pre-selected flights are available, but some of the pours can arrive warm, as the bartenders tend to take their time getting everything assembled. Also, the list on the menu may not accurately reflect what you get due to the constantly rotating taps. Just a word to the wise.

Fried Chicken Skins

The grub itself is not only fantastic, but inventive. Comfort dishes like Jalapeno Shrimp & Grits and Fish & Chips are supplemented by more zany offerings such as Bacon Lollipops and Fried Chicken Skin. And if you’re not sure which brew to pair it with, there’s a suggestion for each right there on the menu. Basically, it’s all good.

Don’t be afraid to bombard your server with questions. They know what they’re talking about, and they’re not afraid to give you an honest opinion. A great resource for those who find themselves a tad overwhelmed.

Overall, the Moth is one of those rarities where the food can actually eclipse the stellar tap and bottle list. Almost. It’s a neat (if somewhat pricey) little place that’s perfect for group outings and dates nights alike. Check it out.
