IdleRye Brings Flavorful Flair to Deep Ellum

Every once in a while, a restaurant comes along that seamlessly blends cultural influences to create a truly unique menu. IdleRye, Deep Ellum’s newest modern American restaurant, is a perfect example. Although the menu clearly features American staple dishes, many are influenced by the culinary traditions of the three owners’ individual cultures. And while cuisine influenced by a combination of Polish and Louisiana roots might seem unusual, the delicious dishes on IdleRye’s menu prove that sometimes an eye for tradition can be the perfect ingredient.

IdleRye specializes in serving small plates, pastas, and housemade sausages, along with a collection of creative Prohibition-era craft cocktails that are definitely worth trying. The Green Leaves Martini, for example, is a refreshing gin-based cocktail enhanced by the flavors of fresh cucumber, basil, and lemon juice. Like the other cocktails on IdleRye’s menu, it’s the perfect blend of traditional influence and modern flair.

The Green Leaves Martini is balanced, refreshing, and flavorful. 

When it comes to ordering food, sharing is always best. The ample selection of small plates on IdleRye’s menu are made for sampling with a group, so ordering a few is a great idea. The Deviled Eggs are a great shareable plate, and feature a nice bite thanks to the addition of spicy chili. The Tater-Tots are another great choice; they’re certainly not your average tot, and feature a deliciously tempting blend of potato, Gruyere, Nutmeg, and Cayenne Pepper that will leave you wanting seconds.

Deviled Eggs are never a bad idea, but the Deviled Eggs at IdleRye have a subtle spiciness that makes them hard to resist.

IdleRye's Tater-Tots are hand-formed using a perfect blend of potato, Gruyere cheese, and spices, so each bite is deliciously cheesy.

The Baby Back Ribs are another tasty shareable small plate on IdleRye’s menu. They feature tender ribs coated in a Black Pepper and Blood Orange glaze and topped with chives, and the portion is certainly large enough to constitute a substantial portion of your entire meal. Pair them with an order of IdleRye’s delicious Crispy Brussels Sprouts for extra flavor.

Baby Back Ribs are hard to beat when they fall off the bone and have a sweet and spicy Blood Orange glaze. 

IdleRye prepares their Brussels Sprouts to be perfectly crispy, which makes them an ideal side for sharing alongside any of their other plates. 

No matter what you get from the shareable menu, you’ll be missing out if you don’t try one of IdleRye’s signature sausages. Make no mistake, the portions on their sausage dishes aren’t small, so these are equally as shareable as their other dishes, albeit quite a bit larger in portion. The Ridiculous Sausage Sandwich—which certainly lives up to its name—pays delicious homage to the Polish roots of one of IdleRye’s owners, all while leaving room for the flavorful modern flair that makes the restaurant unique. It’s definitely worth trying, but don’t be surprised if you can’t finish the whole thing.

They aren't kidding when they call this Sausage Sandwich "Ridiculous," but don't let its massive size deter you from giving it a try. 

IdleRye is located on bustling Elm Street, and it has a wonderful covered patio that makes it an ideal spot for outdoor dining on pretty days. This means it gets busy fast—especially on weekends—so prepare for a wait if you’re visiting without a reservation. Parking can also be tricky, so plan ahead and find a paid lot to avoid tickets or towing. Whether you just drop in for drinks or stay for a full meal, IdleRye is a standout spot you’ll likely want to visit again.
